Our daughter was recently married, it was a wonderful, beautiful event in our family. In the weeks following all the harried prep and planning, it is time to reflect, going through the many photos I choose to take a “time out”; a “pause” to contemplate on our family story…

Reflection is an important part of life and an essential part of our growth as believers.

We must SLOW DOWN in order to reflect!

Slowing down in our fast past world is difficult and often seen as wasteful or even lazy in the rat race of life today. Yet it is extremely needed, allowing us to take note of our spiritual life and drawing us to a deeper place where we look at ourselves introspectively. Clarity comes, helping us identify our strengths and weaknesses. Reflection brings spiritual things both great and small to the forefront of our minds. Looking for God in our lives and the lives of others gives us greater perspective, even seeing hidden “gifts” in the daily grind and trials of life.

Only in God does the world possess meaning, and therefore only in reflection to God are our lives genuine stories” -Anthony Esolen

Questions I ask myself when reflecting:

Who am I

How is God making/changing me?

How is God working in me?

How is God working around me?

All big questions that require contemplation which takes a time of solitude. Stepping away from the world helps us gain God’s perspective, drawing us to be more aligned with our Savior, creating in us a discipleship that Jesus is calling us to. One of the greatest fruits of reflection is humility. Humility comes when we are introspective enough to see the truth of who we are without Christ and who we are in Christ!

“You were taught , with regard to your former way of life, to putt off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness ” Ephesians 4:22-24

Abundant Blessings!
