Take Heart and Go Forth as a Conqueror

It’s 3:38 am. The sound of rain and wind lashing the house awakens me from much needed sleep. Through the arch of the bedroom window the tree branches are dimly lit by the flood lights. I can see the branches with newly formed leaves blowing with such force I know it’s not long before they will break. I listen in the dark as rain pelts the house —sounds of debris fly across the roof, like the scurrying of little paws. Then there was the crack. It was loud and sharp and next came the falling. I could here the sliding and I held my breath waiting for the landing. The landing never came.

I hop out of bed and with sleep filled eyes I run to the windows attempting to purvey the backyard. To find the broken tree.

But it is all darkness.

I lean in slightly, in hopes my view will become clearer. Instead, it falls darker and I feel alone and helpless and weak.

Sometimes darkness feels like illness. Tragedy. Loss. A new job. A new city. A new ministry. We search for answers to our questions, we want to know the endgame.

When darkness falls we want it over just as quickly as it came.

We are broken and when we are broken we feel weak.

The world tells us weakness is a flaw. The world teaches us survival of the fittest and that we need to suck it up.

But God.

He created us with weaknesses. The bible teaches us that our weaknesses, doubts, and insecurities are no surprise to God. Paul tells us his “thorn in the flesh” was there to keep him humble. That he might know that he can do nothing in his own strength. And he will boast about that weakness - that the power of Christ will rest upon Him.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. For when I am weak then I am made strong.”
2 Cor. 12:9-10 NIV

When God is calling you to the seemingly impossible, take that step in faith, He will give you the power to finish whatever He has called you to do.

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Phil 4:13 NIV

Not all weakness comes from God, but if we have tried with all our strength to overcome it, He promises to empower us. To use that weakness for His glory. For His power to flow through us.

In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
Romans 8:37 NIV

So today, what ever you are facing, take heart and go forth as a conqueror.

Blessings,
Shelly Richardson

  1. It can be difficult to trust when we can’t see what is up ahead, but even when we can’t see God’s hand, we can always trust His heart and that He is always there. Beautiful post Shelly!
