EMPOWERED?

It’s Presidential primary election time.  Do you feel empowered?  Or do you feel more like I do; discouraged? How have we come to be in this place?  I think the verse from Proverbs has part of the answer.

For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them. Proverbs 1:32

We have become complacent.

Our right to vote is taken for granted, so the people in powerful positions do not necessarily represent “truth, justice and the American way”.  More people vote for an American Idol than for the President.

Watching this year’s campaign season has been like watching a train wreck, and is indeed discouraging.  Our great country has for many years now turned her back on God and taken for granted the tremendous gifts we have been given.  So we all need to pray for our country, our leaders, our citizens, and our future.  Though it seems rather bleak right now, we know God answers prayer.

Heavenly Father – These times make us realize even more how extraordinary the leaders of our country were at the time of our revolution and independence.  We pray that You would grant our current leaders just a small portion of that wisdom, honor and faith in You.  We pray that our citizens would become informed and would seek what is best for our nation; not trying to get everything for nothing.  We echo the words from history and hope that we would ask what we can do for our country, and not focus on what our country can do for us.  Awaken us oh Lord.

Lord, my heart breaks to see how far we have fallen from where we were, and from where we could be.  Help us to be the nation You have in mind, to fulfill Your purposes and to be a shining beacon of Your goodness and righteousness.  In Jesus’ name we pray.

Do you feel like your vote will make a difference? Your opinion counts, please consider leaving a comment.
