Leave the Lights on

My husband’s family has a holiday tradition that I found rather sweet and wonderful to observe so we have adopted this tradition each year into our home. Every year we leave our Christmas lights glowing overnight on January 7th, 2 weeks past Christmas. No it isn’t an excuse not to take down our decorations but it sure works in favor of that. LOL

Their belief is that during this particular period of time is when Jesus became baptized and began his Ministry. In my bible it explains that Jesus baptism was His first public declaration of His ministry. Instead of going to Jerusalem and identifying with the established leaders, Jesus went to a river and identified with those who were repenting of sin.

Luke 3:21-22 “When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying heaven was opened and the Holy Spirt descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, who I love; with you I am well pleased.”

This tradition is a symbolic reminder of how Jesus came to be among us and lives in us today. He came to be a “light” of our world. New Hope and New meaning to life was given to all of God’s creation through Jesus Christ our Lord. It is believed during this time that Jesus will pass by and bless you and your family for the coming year and that we are reminded of God’s Love and Grace and how Jesus is the one true Savior of our lives.

Perhaps this you may to adopt this tradition and leave your Christmas lights on in what I found to be a beautiful tradition. An exclamation of the Birth of a King and someday His Second coming. I hope this gets around and it could be tradition for the entire US and the World now wouldn’t that be cool.

Here is a wonderful Holiday Tradition Recipe!

Good Things come to those who wait!

Every Christmas and only at Christmas it was a family tradition for my mother to make my Great Grandma’s recipe, “White Christmas Pie”. We would wait in anticipation to help my mom make this wonderful treat. So here is the family recipe!

White Christmas Pie

1-1/2 C Milk

½ C Sugar

3 Tbs. flour

Cook theses 3 items till it starts to simmer

1 pkg. knox unflavored gelatin and in ¼ cup of cold water and add to the ingredients above. Set in the “ice box” overnight (that really means the refrigerator! Pretty old recipe!)

2 beaten egg whites

1 C of  whipping cream

¼ C sugar

1 tsp vanilla

1 C coconut

Blend with gelatin mixture and refrigerate 4-6 hours. Serve chilled

I hope you have a beautiful advent and Christmas Season.
