Sisterhood

Do you have a sister?

Maybe she isn’t yours by blood, but one borne of circumstance or choice. Growing up I had girlfriends and a sister, but I often chose to be alone; chose the life of solitude. This is what makes my choice to write such a natural one.

But Ecclesiastes 4:9 tells us that

“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil.  If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”

Life is designed for companionship. We are meant to live together with intimacy and as members of a team, serving God and others. We need to realize that we can’t do this thing called life alone; as much as we would like to sometimes. Hurt and anger can cause callouses in places that we never thought we would have them. A careless word, a forgotten invitation; these things they hurt. But going it alone doesn’t make life easier. Yes, you might save yourself from hearing those words or convince yourself that it just doesn’t matter, but in the end aren’t we hurt anyway?

Reaching out and taking someone’s hand can lead to healing, and faith that humanity does exist.

blogger award

Yesterday I wrote about the sisterhood of world bloggers award that a beautiful life was nominated for. Today I am nominating other “sisters” who have taken on this thing called blogging in an effort to inspire, encourage and walk side-by-side with those they have not even met.  The blogs that I have chosen have inspired me, as well as others, either by their daily faith, endurance of trials or pain, or their love for the forgotten. The beauty that I see in them is an inspiration to me, and my prayer is that they continue to reach out to another’s hand on the other side of their bandwidth. Hopefully they will each take the time to answer my proposed questions to give us all a bit more insight into who they are and why they do what they do.

Here are the questions:

  1. What is the first thing that you thought about this morning upon waking?
  2. Who is the person you would most like to meet after you have left this earth?
  3. What would be the hardest thing for you to give up in order to provide for someone in need, but you would do it anyway?
  4. If you could choose any job in the world to do every day, what would it be and why?
  5. Who is your favorite author? How have they influenced your writing?
  6. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be and why?
  7. What is one word that if it was spoken to you in a time of trouble past, would have changed your perspective?
  8. What is one thing that you would indulge in if you could, no matter the cost?
  9. Tell us one really awesome fact about you that most people don’t know.
  10. What is the last thing you do before turning off the light at night?

And here are the nominees:

Lynne Cobb

Green Ginger

Forgotten Meadows (beautiful Poetry)

Karen Ehman

Check out their blogs over the next week or so and see if they have answered the questions!  It would be a fun look at a side of someone you don’t normally see!

God bless your week!

  1. Thankyou so much for the award Lisa. What an honour. Certainly a timely thing too - I have struggled to write lately due to personal pain.

I loved this post so much I decided not to write my own intro. Instead, I wish to thank Lisa Evola from http://abeautifullifeministry.org for this timely encouragement and I will be answering the questions and making my own nominations very soon! :)

  3. I’m so sorry to hear about your pain and struggles Merryn. I think we have all experienced the derailing at one time or another. I’m glad that this could be of some encouragement to you…and I pray that your pain and trials will soon subside. Be well my sister.
