the princess bride

“The daughters of kings, women of honor, are maidens in your courts. And standing beside you, glistening in your pure and golden glory, is the beautiful bride-to-be!”      Psalm 45:9

Expectant eyes turn as a vision in white ascends the petal strewn aisle before her. Every gaze follows her steps to the moment she is given to her groom, to the moment that their eyes lock together – forever.

There is nothing more lovely than a bride on her wedding day.

And nothing more moving than the expression on the groom’s face, as he watches her walk toward him, never to be parted again.

It is one of pure joy and unadulterated bliss

Psalm 45 was written as a nuptial song for King David by the sons of Korah, musicians in his court. It is a beautiful celebration between a brideroom and his bride on the day of their wedding. This psalm is both poetic and prophetic, as it describes the joining of not only David and his bride, but also the Messiah (Jesus) and His (the church).

The Messiah stands at the front in all His glory, clothed in gold and spilling forth grace and elegance. He is described in verse 7 as “passionate for righteousness” and bearing the “oil of fervent joy, the very fragrance of heaven’s gladness.”

He waits with bated breath for his bride, anticipating their forever union to come.

What a beautiful description of our Groom! His eyes are upon us…every step of the way, till the moment our hand is placed in His – forever!

We walk to His side, beautiful because of His golden reflection. His beauty reflects back upon us because of who He is. Because of His “golden glory”.

This psalm goes on to say this:

“Now listen, daughter, pay attention, and forget about your past. Put behind you every attachment to the familiar, even those who once were close to you! For your Royal Bridegroom is ravished by your beautiful brightness.”

Leave it all behind

Everything

Because what He has in store for you is greater than anything you ever imagined. Let go of good to receive great. Submit to Him, and great things will follow.

“As the princess-bride enters the palace, how glorious she appears within the holy chamber” (v.13)

He makes us new. As we enter into His presence, His attributes become ours. Bride and groom become one.

“Wedding presents pour in from those of great wealth. The royal friends of the Bridegroom shower you with gifts.” (v.12)

We are showered with gifts: blessings, joy, and the sweetest of fruit. We are strengthened and given unimaginable power. The richest of gifts are ours for the taking, if only we would reach out and accept them.

Sisters and brothers, let me encourage you to reach out today. Accept what is being offered to you by your Bridegroom. He stands with outstretched arms, waiting for you…

for you!

Walk through the petal strewn aisle into the gaze of the one who waits for you. Stand beside Him reflecting His pure beauty
